CUMBRIA police have stepped up their drug targeting in National Drug Week.
On Tuesday they raided a house in Furnace Lane, Maryport and found drugs hidden inside a hollowed out Bible. Two people have been arrested.
A parcel containing £25,000 worth of drugs was also intercepted en-route to an address in Keswick.
As part of National Drugs Week Cumbria police have highlighted their Operation Lizard, which has been running in co-operation with HM Customs and Revenues. The customs staff intercepted the parcel from South Africa. It contained 14 kilos of herbal cannabis worth around £25,000.
Police switched the parcel’s contents for sugar; monitored its delivery and subsequently arrested a 32-year-old Keswick woman on suspicion of importing drugs.
Det. Insp. Cliff Walker said: “We are determined to tackle the supply of illegal drugs, and the people involved who think they are untouchable.
