It’s Prom night!

THE Year 11 students from Whitehaven School were treated to a night of glitz and glamour at their leavers’ prom.

CEWPROM01
Prom-tastic: Whitehaven Year 11 prom night

The prom was held at the Washingotn Hotel in Workington last week.

The prom King and Queen, voted for by everyone present, were Laura Burns and Thomas Hyland.

Funds for the night were raised through a series of events held by students at the school. Throughout the academic year, a group of students sold hot chocolate and cakes to raise funds for the prom and a leavers’ handbook.

A leavers’ assembly was held at the school to say an official goodbye and give out humorous and serious certificates. Stephanie Kelly was entitled the Mars Bar Queen for her weekly making and selling of Mars bar cake – and she was presented with even more Mars bars!

Neil Hanratty won a certificate for 100 per cent attendance for the full five years of secondary school life.

Stephanie Bell received an award for her creative writing, while Rose Napier was presented with fairy wings, as she aspires to work in the RAF.

Karl Bruce was named ‘Comeback Kid’ as he returned to school to complete his GCSE exams following a major illness.

The Friends of Whitehaven School also donated a large cake .

The handbook, edited by Tamzin McCartney, will be given out on results day, August 21.
