Carlisle soap Star Roxanne Pallett is set to steer her on-screen character through her most dramatic scenes yet as she fights back against her violent husband.
In an hour-long Emmerdale special tomorrow, Jo, played by Roxanne finally leaves her abusive husband Andy, before he is accidently impaled.
The challenging story line has seen Jo battered and bruised at the hands ex-co husband, whom she married while he was serving time in prison for manslaughter.
But on Andy’s return home the relationship turned sour.
The plot has also led to Roxanne spearheading a campaign against domestic violence in a bid to encourage more women to speak out against their abusers as the face of Refuge’s Early Warning Signs campaign.
The former Trinity School Pupil said: “This week Emmerdale shows breaking point for Jo, who we have all watched suffer in silence for the last few months at the hands of husband Andy’s mental and physical abuse.
“This has been the most amazing story line and I hope our audiences revel in the gripping drama of Tuesday nights hour long episode when Jo fights back.
“These scenes endure the most dramatic rawness and enclose the most sensitive nature that I have ever created as an actress and I am extremely grateful to ITV.
“I hope the character of Jo gives hope and strength to those watching who are experiencing similar troubles.”
Roxanne, who also supports Breast Cancer Awareness and NSPCC's campaign to speak out against bullying and is an ambassador for the Eden
Valley Hospice, added: “At the end of the day, the most important thing about having a public profile is to use it wisely and to be there for people that need you to speak up for them like the charities I work with.”
The hour long episode will be shown tomorrow night from 7pm on ITV.
