PEOPLE from all over the world are expected at Francis Dunnery’s big annual fundraising weekend.

The Egremont charity event will involve many stars from the rock world – Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell, Steve Nardelli, of the Syn, and Chris Difford of Squeeze.

Also taking part is Hootie and the Blowfish drummer James Sonefeld and TV star Paul Riley, who starred in Still Game.

Each October the Egremont-born rock star returns to hold a number of events to raise money for the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children’s Fund, which gives money for local good causes. It takes place from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26.

It starts on the Friday with an event at Summergrove for all Francis’ fans who have arranged house concerts with him over the past year.

It is for invited guests only and will include entertainment from John and Wayne and also Dorie Jackson, who is supporting Francis on his current tour.

On Saturday there will be a Stableford golf competition at Seascale, sponsored by Egremont’s Ship Launch pub.

Last year’s competition attracted more than 60 people. It is held from 7.30am onwards and the cost is £7.50 for members and £15 for non-members. Francis will give out the trophies at around 4pm.

That night will be the first of two concerts in Egremont Market Hall, as part of the former It Bites frontman’s current tour (see Entertainments section on page 27 for full details).

During the Saturday night gig there will also be a mini-auction of It Bites memorabilia which Francis will sign, including vinyl, fan mail and photographs.

On the Sunday there will be a sponsored walk around Ennerdale. Meet at Bowness Knott car park at 10am for an informal breakfast before setting off at 11am.

The Sunday night will see a second concert with Francis and his band in Egremont Market Hall.

Last year’s weekend event made £18,000.
