Chuck Berry to top bill at Blues festival

THE godfather of rock ’n’ roll, Chuck Berry, will top the bill at this year’s 10th Maryport Blues Festival.

Tickets for the festival – which also features top names such as Jools Holland and Marc Almond – will go on sale tomorrow (Friday).

Berry, 81, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has his own star on Hollywood Boulevard.

Many of his songs – including Johnny B Goode, Maybellene, No Particular Place To Go, and Roll Over Beethoven – are regarded as classics.

Berry will headline the three-day festival’s opening night on July 25.

He will be supported by Darlin Ingrid Berry-Clay on vocals and harmonica, Charles Berry Junior on guitar, James Marsala on bass, Jean Michel Biger on drums and Daniel T Rossing on piano.

A host of other top acts, including Jools Holland, have also signed up to play at the event. American blues diva Shemekia Copeland – described as the next Tina Turner – will also play the opening night.

Earl Thomas will play on Saturday afternoon before Jimmie Vaughan makes his only UK appearance on Saturday night.

Jools Holland and guests – including Marc Almond and Ruby Turner – will close the event on the Sunday night.

Main stage ticket prices are: Friday £35; Saturday £45 (afternoon and evening sessions); Sunday £45 (afternoon and evening sessions); weekend £95.
