Airport revamp

WORK on a £35million revamp of Carlisle Airport is on target to start next month.
City councillors on Friday agreed a revised list of planning conditions acceptable to airport boss Andrew Tinkler.
The scheme for a new runway, terminal, hangars, warehousing and offices had been in doubt after Mr Tinkler stormed out of a planning meeting three weeks ago, saying that the council’s conditions were unworkable.
Those fears have now receded after agreement was struck with the county council, although the Government Office North West could still effectively scupper the scheme if it calls a public inquiry.
