Carnival Day ends with a bang

ONLY the rain stayed away as crowds turned out in their hundreds for Whitehaven Carnival and a firework finale.
Whitehaven Brass Band led the parade, which started at 1.30pm, followed by the mayor and the new carnival queen.
There were dance groups, street entertainers, Cleator Moor Brass, carnival floats and of course, plenty of people in fancy dress.
The parade finished in Castle Park.

There were fireworks on the harbourside from around 10.30pm. They hadbeen organised by Sellafield, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Nuclear Management Partners and Whitehaven Festival Company in conjunction with the Mayor of Copeland.
There was an invite-only barbecue on the Bulwark Quay, with jazz band, to raise money for the Mayor’s charity appeal.
