LABOUR has chosen Workington politician Barbara Cannon to take on Penrith and the Border MP David Maclean at the next general election.
Mrs Cannon represents Moss Bay on Cumbria County Council and Allerdale Borough Council.
Penrith and the Border Labour Party selected her by an “overwhelming majority” at its annual general meeting.
Mrs Cannon faces a Herculean task to oust Mr Maclean in what it is one of the Conservatives’ safest seats. At the last election, in 2005, his majority was 11,904.
