A SPECTACULAR military pageant, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Territorial Army, takes place in Carlisle on Saturday.
The Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Cumbria Garrison and the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment have joined forces to celebrate the centenary of the TA.
Taking the format of a “Beating Retreat” ceremony, marching bands will entertain the crowds and TA soldiers will put on an impressive display of infantry tactics.
The event is open to the public and the gates to the castle open at 5pm. The event is free.
The Beating Retreat ceremony will begin at 6pm and include a 20-minute military demonstration by 4th Battalion the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, a march past and the playing of the Last Post and a Sunset Ceremony at around 7pm.
Earlier in the day, the castle will be open to the public (at an entry cost of £4) to view the grounds and look around a series of military stands showcasing the TA.
