Tracey launches fitness club

TRACEY Telfer has turned her long-standing passion for fitness and exercise into a new business venture
On September 1, Tracey launches her series of diet and fitness clubs - under the umbrella of the renowned Rosemary Conley franchise * and is raring to go.
“I’ve always been very much into fitness and exercise and I began taking it quite seriously about 15 years ago, attending fitness conventions and teaching classes at Whitehaven Sports Centre,” says Tracey, of Solway View, Whitehaven.
But after spending 15 years as an IT teacher, working everywhere from Sellafield and Lakes College to Harecroft Hall, she decided to turn her interest into a career opportunity.
“It was time to look for something new; to work for myself in something I was passionate about.
“As it happened, my mother-in-law saw an advert for a Rosemary Conley franchise. I did my research and attended a number of presentations and I was very impressed by the setup and the level of support they offer is outstanding.
“So I purchased my license and will launch, under the umbrella of the Rosemary Conley organisation, on September 1.”
Tracey offers 13 sessions a week at locations all across West Cumbria, including Cleator Moor Celtic FC, St Gregory & St Patrick’s Community Centre in Whitehaven and The Oval Centre in Salterbeck, Workington.
“The sessions will be structured in keeping with the Rosemary Conley format. It is not a ‘one fit for all’ format as the sessions are adapted to each person’s ability and goals.
“Each person undergoes a detailed screening before joining, and the 90-minute sessions consist of weigh-ins, personal consultations, a motivational talk, weight maintenance programme and 45 minutes of exercise to music.
“Everyone and anyone should have the ability to do it. The class is split into three tiers and people place themselves in which category they feel is appropriate, and they can change depending on how they progress.
“People can try the session before they become members too, and then decide to sign up for as many sessions as they wish.”
But Tracey is not resting on her laurels in terms of her own training.
“I have an OCR Level 2 in Exercise to Music, but I am currently working towards a qualification in nutrition, which I can take to degree level in the future. This is important because the issues surrounding nutrition are ever-changing.”
Tracey operates her classes from Mondays to Thursdays, with Fridays being reserved for her own training, bookkeeping and general upkeep of running her own business.
“I have to thank my mum, Margaret Proud, and my mother-in-law, Christine Telfer, for their help and support and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
So what is Tracey’s message for those thinking about attending one of her classes?
“If you are thinking of losing weight or getting fitter and you feel confident enough to do something about it, this is a friendly and supportive way to do it and works well for the individual. It’s a simple formula of looking at what you are eating and doing.”
