THE fourth round of the Primary School league was held in warm, sunny conditions at Longlands Lake, Cleator.

The day’s fastest time went to Joe Fanthorpe of Eaglesfield Paddle, taking 7,7 for the 1.2km, and 12-control B course. Paul Eaton of Beckermet was only three seconds slower on the A course.

Lucy Whelan from Ennerdale was first girl, taking 7.58 on A. With only seconds separating the runners in the results, top placings were keenly fought for amongst the 260 pupils taking part.

The points awarded depending on finish order are entered into the league. This is published on the website www.lakes-o.freeserve.co.uk

With two more events to go, there is all to play for to try and get those high points. The venues being used are now more challenging and need a great deal of concentration on the map reading.

The best 20 scores (10 for small primaries) make up the team score. The final will be held on June 26 on an area between Cockermouth and Workington, with its exact location remaining a secret until closer the time.

Pupils can try their skills at the West Cumberland Club’s evening events throughout the summer, held each Thursday somewhere in West Cumbria. Details can be found on the website. An easy course is always available.
