WHITEHAVEN’S Adam Crellin produced the fastest time of the day at the secondary school’s league event.

Crellin turned in a spectacular 7.01, while Matthew Atkinson (Keswick) and Liam O’Pray (Whitehaven) were the only other two under the eight minutes.

Broughton Tarns near Little Broughton was the venue for Monday’s event, where 75 pupils enjoyed the warm sunshine and fabulous views while racing around the 1.7km courses, each with 16 control points to find.

The three fastest girls were Alice Rea (Wyndham) 8.41, Hannah Bradley (Cockermouth) 9.02 on course A, and Katrina Hemingway (Cockermouth) 9.05 on course B.

Many of the pupils had taken part in the Primary League in earlier years so were well capable of tackling the courses through areas of young trees with little visibility, and marshy ground next to the tarns. The rough terrain was certainly a vast change from school playing fields.
