STAIR village in the Newlands Valley was the setting for the 3rd CFR Junior Club Championship.
Sandwiched between Catbells on one side and Causey Pike on the other, the setting had the makings for some fine racing.
The first race away was the under-8s and the first CFR girl home was Millie Park in 2,44, second girl was Elsa Whelan in 2,49 and the third girl home was Rachel Kellet in 3,3.
The boys’ race was a closly fought contest and the first CFR boy home was Zac Anderson in 2,20, while second place went to Alex Crow in 2,22 and third place went to Ethan Crow in 3,20.
The under-10s was a great race with Niamh Hedley romping home in fine style to take the first girl overall as well as the first CFR in 6,48. Second girl home was Bramble Park in 7,20, third place went to Ceris Atkinson in 7,26 and fourth place went to Andrea Kellet in 8,32.
Five seconds was the margin between the first two CFR boys with David King just edging out Oliver Dawson into second position with times of 6,2 and 6,7 respectively.
Third place went to Finlay Grove in 6,18 and fourth place went to Kieran Riley in 6,42.
The wind picked up quite fiercely the higher up the fell the juniors climbed and the older juniors certainly knew the true meaning of fell running.
The first under-12 CFR girl home was Madeleine Crow in a fine time of 10,49, second place went to Lucy Whelan 10,59 and third home battling against the elements was Molly McAleavey in 14,44.
Tom Wright made it three out of three, finishing in third overall and first CFR under-12 boy in 8,54 followed by Joseph Smith in 10,10, third position went to Tom Norman in 11,15. Fourth place went to Sam Farrar in 11,16 and fifth place was claimed by Isaac Travis in 12,36.
The under-14s had a steep climb up onto the open fell and the first CFR girl home was Alice Rea in 15,42, followed by Sian Riley into second position in 16,2.
The boys had another race for the finish line with Nathan Thompson just beating Thomas King by two seconds, finishing in first and second position in 11,34 and 11,36 respectively.
Third boy home was William King in 12,9, fourth place went to Jonathan Norman in 13,30, fifth place Jack Riley in 17,46, sixth place was James Whelan in 19,3 and hot on his heals in seventh place was his brother Robin Whelan in 19,7.
Due to the high winds, the race organisers changed the under-16s and under-18s and, instead of running across the high ridge, ran two loops of the under-14s course.
The first under-16 CFR boy home and an impressive ninth overall was Mark Brown in 18,39, second place went to Duncan Eastoe in 21,6 and third place went to Jamie Riley in 21,40.
CFR only had one under-18 runner competing so first place went to Jackson Kelly in 23,9.
